Event Security Planning: A Complete Guide

From 500 person corporate events to 15,000+ festivals, the planning framework is the same. Here is how professional teams do it.

1. Risk assessment first

Venue, crowd profile, alcohol, weather, local threat picture. Every plan starts here.

2. Access control design

Separate flows for VIP, general admission, staff, vendors, and emergency vehicles. One entrance per 500 expected attendees is a starting rule.

3. Crowd management staffing

Visible guards at chokepoints, rovers in open areas, supervisors with radios overseeing zones. Span of control: one supervisor per 8 to 10 guards.

4. Emergency action plan

Evacuation routes, muster points, medical post location, communication tree. Rehearse it in the pre event briefing, not during the incident.

5. Communication

Radios on a dedicated channel, a command post, and a direct line to local police and fire. Cell phones are backup, not primary.

6. Post event review

Incident log review within 48 hours. What worked, what did not, what changes for next year.
